Home Buying without the BS!
Published in Paperback by Hall Street Press (June, 2002)

Home Buying without the spell/grammar check?!?!?!
Great Book!: Gives advice other books don't.This book is one of several that I have read on home buying. Although all good books on a specific subject will have overlap of information, Mr. Thornton reveals many additional facts and advice that the others don't. Also, it is an easy, quick-to-read yet comprehensive book printed in large type. I have much more confidence going out into the home buying market all by myself now. --Marsha
Don't Buy a Home Without It!Interested in buying a house/condo this year or next? Do you want to make wise decisions based on inside information that is available to any knowledge-seeking consumer? If you answered "Yes" to all 3 questions, Todd Thornton's Home Buying without BS: Information without Overload will save you unnecessary headaches. Author Thornton presents vital information in plain language versus disguised "commission-driven" lingo voiced by your typical realtor, mortgage broker and escrow officer. For example, if you're lucky enough to receive your credit report from your mortgage broker, Thornton will discuss how Lenders evaluate your credit score and provide suggestions on how to improve your credit. Each of the 16 chapters is concluded with positive do-able action steps and relevant points of wisdom. Thornton's relevant points of wisdom served as mini-life savers when swimming towards the finish line in the home buying process. Thornton's straightforward tips strengthened me when I discovered my real estate service providers were prioritizing the size of their sales commission over my welfare and happiness.

Help! I'm Trapped in the First Day of School
Published in Paperback by Apple (September, 1994)
Average review score:

AWESOME![.]I recently picked this book up at a second-hand store while looking for kids' books. I'd never read this before but I thought it was based on an article/story in a magazine I remember reading in school in 7th grade about the same situation; being "stuck in the first day of school": waking up every day and having to start over again! I don't remember what magazine that was that that story was in; supposedly it was some educational/religious magazine since I was at a Christian school that year, however when I read this book, I discovered this book wasn't what I thought and probably had no connection with the story in the magazine although both were similar.
When I read the first episode in the book about the first day, I was so mad at the main character's buddy Alex for how he treated people, especially poor Ollie, that I was just going to put down the book and not read it anymore but I'm glad I didn't because it gets better and better with every repeat first day of school! I cracked up laughing about the cafeteria's rotten food in spite of myself. That'd be awful but Alex the smart aleck got what he deserved, biting into a burger with rotten meat.
I can't remember the main character's name, but we see him become a stronger person instead of a follower of the bad seed Alex, as he takes Ollie the new kid under his wing and saves his house from a fire, and befriends the new girl Amber; they have a great friendship going on!! The ending was wonderful. I like this book a lot better than that article I said I read in 7th grade that was similar to this story because it had a happy and satisfying ending, whereas the one in the magazine left you hanging on a cliff practically! Very clever story, beautifully written. Kudos to Mr. Strasser, keep up the good work!

Great book! Are you looking for a funny book that is exciting and will keep you on the edge of your seat? Well Help, I'm Trapped in the First Day of School is just that. It tells the story of a boy named Jake and how he learns the truth about his new best friend, Alex. After Jake gets stuck in the first day of school with Alex six times in a row, he figures out that Alex isn't quite as funny as he first appeared. Jake learns that there is something he must do about his new best friend in order to stop the first day of school from coming again each day. The most hilarious part about this book was when Alex tries to tell the teacher about a nature wedgie and a Melvin wedgie. One of the most exciting parts is when Jake figures how to get out of the first day of school. I would recommend this book to someone who has a good sense of humor about kids who like to joke around in school.

Les Miserables: Piano/Vocal Ward Best Musical
Published in Paperback by Hal Leonard (April, 1991)
Average review score:

I wish you would list the contents...I saw that someone else has the same gripe as I do, I wish that the contents of the book were listed here. I loved the book, the songs were wonderful and easy to follow, but if I hadn't been able to find a copy before I bought it I would not have known which songs were in it, and I might not have bought it. Just a suggestion.
One of the best musicals ever written. This book is a fabulous collection of sheet music, that I would highly recommend to any singers who are looking to expand their knowledge of musical theatre. The show is about three hours, so it is ridiculous of people to expect this book to contain every song in the show. All the major numbers are included, and most people will be more than satisfied with this book.
Les Miserables Piano/VocalThis book is great book for all those singers and piano players out there who have fallen in love with Les Mis. I first heard the Les Mis songs through playing them with my high school concert band and after that I bought the piano book so I could play the songs on the piano. I just played 5 of the songs in the book in a medley at my piano recital and I believe it was very enjoyable for everyone there since most were familiar with the music. I highly recommend this book because the piano music is not too difficult to play and the voice ranges for singers are good especially if you're an alto like me. Les Mis definitely has some of the greatest and most beautiful songs ever written!

Spider-Man Vs. Venom
Published in Paperback by Marvel Books (May, 1990)
Average review score:

Classic VenomIr you're a fan of Todd McFarlane's art and you don't have this yet, what are you waiting for? This book contains Amazing Spider-Man #300 which is the first full appearance, origin of Venom, and his first fight with Spidey. It also has, I think, issues #315-317 which is the Venom rematch. Not really a great story but it's a good enough backdrop for McFarlane where he started to do his best work and this is full of some great pictures. I recommend this for Mcfarlane and Venom fans.
Good to the last pageIf your a spiderman fan....you'll love it. Simple as that no BS.
This is a cool book. This graphic novel contains some scenes from Amazing Spider-Man # 298 and #299. It contains full Amazing Spider-Man # 300, 315, 316, and 317. It tells about the first issues of Venom. It contains one comic about the Hydro Man. If you like Venom then buy this.

Help! I'm Trapped in My Teacher's Body
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)

Help! I am trapped in a teacher's bodyHave you ever read a book about school? This is the first school book I've ever read. The author is Todd Strasser the title is Help I am Trapped in my Teacher's Body. This book is for people who like stories by Todd Strasser. The author uses easy words. I like easy words. Some examples are how, they, and what. This book is an exciting because it tells what it is like to be a teacher.
John the main character has to teach a science class. He does science projects. John teaches how to make bombs. He lets them make water balloons. I like this book. It is one of the best chapter books I ever read.
I like this book because it is exciting to read what happens next. The author is Todd Strasser. The main characters are Mr.Dirksen, John, and john's sister. This is a good book for fifth graders because I never got board.
Help! I'm trapped in my teacher's bodyThis book was really funny though a little out of hand sometimes. I really liked it. I thought sometimes it would just go on about nothing and would be really boring. But that would be just a little bit the other parts were realistic and thoughtful. I give it 4 stars!
Help!!! I'm Trapped In My Teacher's BodyI loved this book because, it's really funny and it gives readers a point-of-view of a teacher.
It's about a 12 year old kid named Jake Sherman. Everything goes well, until he and his teacher's body switch. To make matters worse, his teacher, Mr. Dirksen, doesn't want to switch back!!!
Did I leave you hanging?? Well, read this book to find out!!

In the Bedroom
Published in Paperback by Vintage Books (26 February, 2002)
Average review score:

Monologues about trivialitiesThese short stories could be of interest, but I cannot share the enthusiasm of other readers. To me they are lengthy monologues by a lonesome soul, whispering to itself about trivialities. I will avoid Andre Dubus. gerborg
BewitchingUsually I shy away from short story collections, but a friend whose opinion I value highly recommended this book by the well-respected author, Andre Dubus. She was right. These 7 stories are masterful, displaying the quiet power within the decisions we make as we live through life's seemingly small moments. The award-winning movie titled In the Bedroom with Cissie Spacek was made from one of these stories.
A bewitching and profound collection that should be on every serious reader's bookshelf.

This is the world we live inThe thing about this book that people have told me they didn't like was that it was what they found in the newspaper. It is very similar to the world that we live in. The people seem really enough to pop off the page and enter your life. Talk for instance the story The Killings, also the the basis for the moving In The Bedroom. That is something that has happenend in this strange world that we live in. And it is what this amazing author brings to a table. When I first read Dubus I was unsure of his brillance but after reading In The Bedroom, I will not question him again. It is remarkable how well he wrote and knew the people he was writing about.
This book at times almost reads like memoirs. And at other times not so much like anything you have ever read before. Take a chance with a different type of writing.

Making Out in Japanese
Published in Paperback by Charles E Tuttle Co (February, 2002)
Average review score:

Not for serious learning of NihongoBut still quite fun. Slang is a bit outdated, but the Japanese I learned in college in 1992-93 is already outdated. Also, slang varies from city to city, and this is only glossed over. Still, I enjoyed this book and it's prequel.
Get this book!I first came across this book from a friend's recommendation and when I read it I thought it was hilarious! But little did I know that the stuff actually works! I managed to pick up a couple of Japanese girls with these lines and they were cracking up as well. Of course, that was only the beginning and we end up having much more fun later on.
THE PERFECT BOOKThis book gets "honor class" distinction from me. From P-cola to SD I couldn't put it down! Got the first book autographed and never knew about the second one. Now I need to get this one signed. Two thumbs up Mr. Geers...

Poetry Nation: The North American Anthology of Fusion Poetry
Published in Paperback by Vehicule Press (November, 1998)
Average review score:

Poetry perfectThis is a great book. Its exciting, challenging and unforgetable. Voices from across the continent rant, sing, whisper and cry. Themes from motherhood to gaylove remind me that the muse is still alive speaking to the new generation. This book is fresh with its vigour and difference, taking risks with unknowns and congratulating the celebrities. It is real proof that many of these poets who work so well on stage (Regie Cabico, Nicole Blackman, Taylor Mali, Heather ONeil, Alexis O Hara, DJ Renegade and on and on) fit their poetry to text so eloquently. Read Patricia Smith (the women in this book are amazing) and Allen Ginsberg for the bigger names, let them hold you like they did in cafes and theatre around the country. When is Poetry Nation 2??
A great samplingThis is the kind of collection that will be especially fun for young and aspiring poets to peruse and pilfer. It contains such a great variety of forms and voices that there will inevitiably be much inside that readers will love, and hate. And what more could one ask for from an anthology!
ELLYN MAYBE and HEATHER O'NEILL ARE HOT!!!Please buy this anthology, 'cuz it rocks! It has all of my friends in it, and me, too (Beau Sia, author A Night Without Armor II: The Revenge)! Some folks that should've been in it, aren't, but no anthology is all-inclusive (yet). My favorite poem is the one by Ginsberg. Long Live Ginsberg!

Vin Diesel XXXposed

Loved It!!!Easy to read. A must have for his fans. Everything you wanted to know and more. Experience the up's, down's, etc. of making it big. Good clear pitures. A quick read which was rather gratifying (like chocolate and vanilla ice cream treat).
Loved It!Everything you wanted to know and more. A must have for his fans. Good, clear photographs. Experience his up's and down's on the road to making it big. An easy, quick read but, satisfying like good, chocolate flavored, vanilla ice cream.
Everything you wanted to know about Vin, and probably more. There really isn't much that I cannot say for this book. It was great. Every avid Vin Diesel (Mark Vincent) fan out there has to read this book. It is a must have for all fans and it lends a great deal of personal history to this mysterious actor taking Hollywood by storm. It even gives a little heads up on future films he may be in, and we all wanna know that before hand, right? Anyway, enough said, worth every penny!

Loving Mr. Lincoln: The Personal Diaries of Mary Todd Lincoln
Published in Paperback by Jedco Press (07 April, 2003)
I do like how the book is formatted (easy to read) and the grouping of web-links at the end of each section is invaluable. I also appreciate the light that the author sheds on the real estate game and what some people will try to do to dupe you out of your money.
On the other hand, I would hate for my child to pick up this book and to think that adults are in general this lacking in grammar skills.
There are multiple instances of the misuse of there/their/they're and many occurances of nonsense sentences due to the editor not reading this book thoroughly (using 'off' instead of 'of'). There are also sentences in this book that change verb-tense mid sentence.
Maybe that's why the type is so big. Maybe the author/editor are assuming that you'll read the book so fast that you won't catch any of their typos...
